10.11. About the Lesson

What is a lesson?

The "Lesson" module allows you to create interactive learning materials, such as those that branch to different pages based on the user's responses.

10.11.1. How to Use the Lessons

1. Install the lesson module.

2. Configure the lesson settings and click "Save changes"

3. Set up the lesson questions.

To create lesson content, select "Add a content page" if you want to create materials, or "Add a question page" if you want to create questions.

4. When adding a page, you must specify a destination page to which students will be redirected after they have answered that page.

5. You can create a group of issues by selecting "Add a cluster" from the "Actions" drop-down menu on the right.

6. The End of Branch is the page that appears at the end of the lesson. If you set the Jump To option to "End of lesson" learners will be redirected to the course page.

Be sure to place an end branch at the end of the lesson. From the "Action" dropdown menu on the right, select "Add an end branch."

10.11.2. Lesson Settings

<General>

  • Name: The title of the module.

  • Description: This is the description of the lesson.

<Appearance>

  • Linked Media: Use this to embed media such as images and videos within a lesson.

  • Display ongoing score: Displays the grades for the course you are currently taking.

  • Minimum grade to display menu: Set the minimum rating required to display the menu for viewing reviews.

  • Slideshow: Displays the content in a slideshow with fixed width and height.

  • Maximum number of answers: Set the maximum number of answers when creating a question.

  • Use default feedback: If you select "Yes" the feedback field will display "Correct answer" for correct responses and "Incorrect answer" for incorrect responses when left blank.

  • Link to next activity: You can link to the module specified at the end of the problem.

  • Progress Bar: Displays a progress bar to indicate progress.

  • Display menu: Displays a menu that allows you to navigate between pages.

  • Available from: Set the start date and time for the lesson.

  • Deadline: Set the date and time when the lesson will end.

  • Time Limit: Set the time limit for the exam.

  • Password Protected Lessons: Set a password when accessing the lessons.

<Flow Control>

  • Allow student review: Enables students to review lessons from the beginning.

  • Provide option to try a question again: If this setting is enabled, users will be able to retake the test after answering a question incorrectly.

  • Maximum number of attempts per question: Set the number of times each question can be attempted.

  • Action after correct answer: Configure the screen transition that occurs after a correct answer.

  • Number of pages to show: Displays the number of pages in the current problem. This feature is available when using the "Random Problem" mode.

  • Grade: Set the grade type.

    • Point: Numerical grade
    • Scale: Evaluation based on the rating scale configured on the site
  • Grade Category: This option is available if you have configured categories in the grading rubric. It allows you to calculate a final grade by summing the scores from other modules.

  • Grade to pass: Set the passing score for the lesson.

  • Practice Lesson: If you select "Yes" it will no longer appear on the grade sheet.

  • Custom Scoring: When creating a question page, you can assign individual point values to each answer choice. This feature is used when awarding partial credit or similar scoring.

  • Minimum number of questions: Set the minimum number of questions that must be answered in order to calculate the grade.

  • Re-takes allowed: This setting allows students to retake the exam as many times as they like from start to finish.
