3.1. About Roles¶
What is a roll?¶
A role refers to a user's permissions within a course. Depending on the role, the actions a user can perform and the items they can view vary. Users are assigned roles for each course.
The permissions available to users with the "Teacher" role in a course are as follows:
| Role Name | Scope of Authority |
|---|---|
| Teacher | This role allows you to edit the course, including setting up activities and resources and registering users. |
| Teachers without editing privileges | This role allows you to view and grade submitted assignments, but does not allow you to edit course content. |
| TA (Extended) | You will have nearly the same privileges as a teacher. You will not be able to enter or view student grades. |
| TA (Basic) | In addition to the operations that the TA (Extended) role cannot perform, this role is also unable to evaluate assignments. |
| TA (Restricted) | In addition to the operations that the TA (Basic) role cannot perform, you are also unable to register or unregister participants or modify course settings. |
| student | This is the role assigned to users who participate in learning activities within the course. |
How to switch rolls¶
If you want to see how the course content appears to students or other users, you can switch roles to view the screen.
1. Click the user icon in the upper-right corner of the screen, then click "Switch Role to."

2. A list of available views is displayed; click any view to see how the page will appear in that view.

3. The selected role will be displayed in yellow in the upper-right corner of the screen. To return to your original role, click the user icon in the upper-right corner of the screen and select "Return to my nomal Role."

Role changes are only valid within the course you have switched to. If you want to view another course as a student, please switch roles again or log out and log back in to change your role.
